Abstract: | The formation of hydrogen-bonded nanometer scale capsules from C-methylresorcin[4]arene represented a new area of research within the broad field of supramolecular chemistry. The related pyrogallol[4]arenes form nanocapsules of similar dimensions and this research now extends into the formation of novel metal-organic nanocapsules (MONCs). These relatively new systems are described here, with particular focus on recent advances in the formation of MONCs that are seamed together by more than one type of metal ion. This chemistry holds great potential for the isolation of designer materials that allow for enhanced control over the ratios of metal ions within these supramolecular assemblies. |
