Abstract: | Lasers are used in mass spectrometry for two different tasks: (i) sample volatilization by laser desorption. Lasers can serve for the production of intact gas phase species from nonvolatile, polar, high molecular weight, and thermally labile substances. (ii) sample ionization. Lasers often act as efficient soft ionization sources. |
