Kinetics and mechanism of the reduction of enneamolybdonickelate(IV) by iodide

Abstract:The kinetics and mechanism of the reduction of enneamolybdonickelate(IV) by iodide in acid aqueous solution was studied by spectrophotometry. The reaction rate increases, as the concentration of H+ increases and with temperature. It shows that the reaction rate law is $$-{{rm d}_{C_{{rm Ni^{IV} M}}} over {d_{t}}} =

H}^+]_{e} [{rm I}^-]_{T} [{rm Ni}^{IV} {rm M}]_{T}} over {1+K_1

= k_{{rm obs}} [{rm Ni}^{IV} M]_{rm T} .$$ The reaction rate constants and activation parameters of the rate-determining steps were evaluated. A mechanism related to the reaction is proposed.
