| Abstract: | Reactions of aldehyde arylhydrazones ( 1 ) with nitric oxide in the presence of trace oxygen gave exclusively (E)‐C(1′)‐nitrohydrazones ( 2 ) in high yield. The structure of products was confirmed by NMR, IR, MS and X‐ray crystallography. The reaction is assumed to be initiated by addition of NO2 to the imine double. |
