Electrogenerated chemiluminescence of lucigenin in aqueous alkaline solutions at a platinum electrode

Lucigenin is shown to emit light during electrolysis in aqueous alkaline solutions at a platinum electrode. In the mechanism proposed, lucigenin is initially reduced at —0.30 V vs. Ag/AgCl and subsequently the reaction product reacts either with oxygen or a reduction product of oxygen. Previous evidence on this phenomenon is contradictory.
