The third member of the homologous series of TlBa2Can-1CunO2n+3 (Tl-1223) was reported to be a superconductor at a transition temperature of 118 K1. The Tl-1223 compound is known as a suitable material for practical applications because it has high Tc and Jc values. The small spacing between the CuO2 planes in Tl-1223 can avoid a large anisotropy in the superconducting properties, which makes it the most attractive.
