Diagonal elements and eigenvalues of a real symmetric matrix |

| Abstract: | A simple and constructive proof is given for the existence of a real symmetric matrix with prescribed diagonal elements and eigenvalues. Numerically implementable algorithms for constructing such a matrix are discussed. |
