Abstract:The modified expressions of the Martin Equations for both general and a homologous series have been developed from the stoichiometric displacement model of retention (SDM-R) in reversed phase liquid chromatography (RPLC). The parameters A and B in this modified expression of a homologous series are related to four constants and the solvent concentration D_0]. The capacity factor (k') of component can be predicted from the linear relationship of A and B vs. log D_0] at any givenD_0] within a suitable concentration range. Strategies are proposed with choosing four trial point groups for calculating k' values of the members in a homologous series by using the modified equations. The modified Martin Equation was tested with many chromatographic systems in which the mobile phase consists of. mcthanol-water and it was found that it fits experimental date well. This paper may also be considered as th(?)oretical and applicational developments for the stoichiometric displacement model of retention in RPLC.
