Use of kinetic data obtained by the decomposition of single crystals for studies on endothermic decomposition reactions of ultra-fine particles

Abstract:The kinetics of endothermic decomposition reactions of ultra-fine powders is described in terms of a spherical particle model which assumes that the kinetic data obtained for decomposition of single crystals of the same composition and under the same experimental conditions still hold for the powders.Rate equations are derived and compared with data obtained in vacuo and at constant temperature for the thermal decomposition of ultra-fine particles of calcium carbonate. The agreement is satisfactory.
