| Abstract: | Treatment of methyl 2‐aryl‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroisoquinoline‐3‐carboxylates 5 with N‐bromosuccinimide followed by heating in the presence of an acid catalyst resulted in the formation of the corresponding methyl 2‐aryl‐1,2‐dihydroisoquinoline‐3‐carboxylates 10 via an oxidation–dehydration sequence. |
