Abstract:The reactions of diphenylcarbazone or diphenylcarbazide with mercury(I) or mercury(II) are studied by qualitative analysis, extraction and Job's method. Only carbazone complexes are formed. Mercury(I) and (II) both form two complexes, a 1:1 and a 1:2 complex (cation : carbazone). The complexes formed are colloids in aqueous alcoholic solutions. Decomposition of these complexes, to form diphenylcarbodiazone, is accelerated by ultraviolet and visible light.
