| Abstract: | An enzymatic method for the detection of esters has been developed. The use of various esterases as an analytical tool has been examined. It has been found that lipase can be used for the detection of esters under specified conditions. The relative rates of hydrolysis observed in the case of various esters have been explained on the basis of the generally accepted mechanism. The enzymatic method has been compared with the hydroxamic acid test. |
