Abstract:The gamma induced polymerizations of iso-butyl- (i-BMA) and dodecyl-(DMMA) methacrylates under non-stationary conditions have been studied, utilizing a calorimetric method already used for other methacrylates. For both monomers, the polymerization rate was found to vary linearly with (dose rate)12 at the dose rates and temperatures examined. The rate constants for propagation and termination are compared with those of methyl-, ethyl-, n-butyl- and cyclohexyl methacrylate; the results are discussed.
