Hilbert decomposition and semicontinuity

Summary The integrals of the calculs of variation are redefined and their Hilbert decomposition is defined in general abstract terms. An immediate, obvious proof of the fact that integrals which admit a Hilbert decomposition are semicontinuous is given. This lemma, which establishes a relation between continuous and semicontinuous integrals and indicates a method of constructing Weierstrass ξ-functions for each particular problem, is formal and independent of the topology adopted. An open problem is stated.

Una dimostrazone immediata, ovvia, del fatto che tutti gli integrali che ammettono una decomposizione di Hilbert sono semicontinui è data.
