The Numerical Calculation of Viscous Stratified Flows

The calculation of steady low Reynolds number flows with strongstable thermal stratification is analysed. It is shown how thebehaviour of an iterative method depends on the Rayleigh number.Time dependent calculations are also considered, and an apparentlynew time step limitation is derived. It is shown that the iterativemethod is more efficient than the time dependent calculationas a means of finding the steady state.
