Low-field electron emission from pinaster-like MoO2 nanoarrays as two-stage emitters

Abstract:Low-field electron emission is obtained from the pinaster-likeMoOfield emission, molybdenumdioxide, enhancement factorProject supported by the NationalKey Basic Research of China (Grant No 2007CB310500) and the ChineseMinistry of Education (Grant No 705040), the National NaturalScience Foundation of China (Grant Nos 90606009, 60571044 and10774174).7900, 8116, 2110F7/1/2008 12:00:00 AMLow-field electron emission is obtained from the pinaster-likeMoO$_{2}$ nanoarrays. The turn-on field of the pinaster-likeMoO$_{2}$ nanoarrays is found to be as low as 2.39,V/$mu $m withthe current density of 10,$mu $A/cm$^{2}$. The enhancement factoris extracted to be 3590 from the Fowler--Nordheim plot. Theseexcellent emission properties are attributed to the specialstructure of the pinaster-like MoO$_{2}$ nanoarrays and confirmed bythe calculation in the frame of the two -stage model. Our resultsshow that the pinaster-like MoO$_{2}$ nanoarrays are promisingcandidate in realizing field emission displays.
