| Abstract: | The Vilsmeier-Haack formylation reaction and several additional reactions have been employed to prepare a variety of benz[e]- and benz[g] indole-2- and 3-carboxaldehydes. Similar conditions have been utilized to prepare several 2,3-disubstituted benz[g] indole-5-carboxaldehydes. |
