Abstract:In this paper,we consider the characteristic finite element method for current and silt sedimentation model in two space dimensions.The governing equa- tions are uniformly convection-dominat.It is especially diffculty to approximate well by using the finite element method.There,a characteristic finite element method is used of approximate the solutions of the model,the method is good to handle the convection part.However,the first equation of the model is nearly hyperbolic in nature,our analysis shows that the method only approximates the model suboptimally.
