Bifurcation of Solutions for an Inverse Problem in Potential Theory

Local existence and global numerical continuation of some solution branches are studied in an inverse potential problem in the exterior of a sphere. It is shown how multiple solutions arise where the solution field is tangent to the sphere. This work provides a tractable example of bifurcation arising from the edge of a continuum of eigenvalues.
