Electric dipole oscillator strengths: length and velocity!

Abstract:Whenever approximate wavefunctions are employed in calculations of electric dipole oscillator strengths (f values). so that “length” and “velocity” forms ? and ? differ, an appropriate linear combination of transition moments may yield and f value which is usually close to (and often more accurate than) the better of fL and fV. Sample calculations on the helium isoelectronic sequence and the boron atom demonstrate the effectiveness of the procedure.
