Abstract:Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), an effective and expensive medicine for trea-ting cholelithiasis, occurs in high concentration in the bile of bears. Using the"syringe method" designed by us, three strains of clostridia which transformedchenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) to UDCA efficiently under anaerobic conditionswere isolated from 640 soil samples. It was found that they were capable ofconversing CDCA to UDCA independently.
