The synergic extraction of uranium(VI) with solutions of trioctylphosphine oxide and benzoic acid in carbon tetrachloride

The synergic extraction from perchlorate media of uranium(VI) with solutions of trioctylphosphine oxide and benzoic acid in carbon tetrachloride media is studied. The concentrations of the different species of the two extractants and their distribution in the extraction systems are calculated. The values obtained together with the distribution coefficients determined for uranium are used to determine the composition of the synergic adduct and to calculate the extraction constant. The conditions for the destruction or the synergism in these systems are clarified.
