Abstract: | Aluminum coupons reinforced undirectionally with continuous alumina fibers were loaded in combined tension-torsion. Experimental
results indicate that the super-imposition of a 0.0025 shear strain reduced the tensile strain to failure by 67 percent. Similarly,
the superposition of a 0.0007 tensile strain reduced the shear strain to failure by 81 percent. It was inferred that applying
the torque first and then the axial load or the axial load first and then the torque, had no significant affect on the failure
envelope. The shear modulus was estimated to be 50.56.GPa. |
