Abstract: | A new concept in broad-band ultrasonic flaw detectors is presented, based on a principle which uses only a single fast voltage drop instead of a pulse-like excitation as the driving voltage. This enables unipolar pressure pulses to be generated with acoustically well-matched transducers. The basic electronic circuit essentially consists of Power-MOS-FETs with a fast switching time. With the circuit as described below and a borad-band PVDF transducer, a pulse duration of ultrasonic signals in water shorter than 50 ns is obtained. |
