Abstract:Results are presented that show the damage thresholds of e -beam evaporation deposited multilayer ZrO2/SiO2 and HfO2/SiO2 thin films can be increased by illumination with sub-threshold fluences of a small diameter beam (125μm) from pulsed (1Hz, 10ns) NdYAG laser (1064um). Of the two kinds of coatings, HfO8/SiO2 gave greater improvement with conditioning. Several possible conditioning mechanisms are examined.
