| Abstract: | A natural extension of the Curry-SchoenbergB-splines is given, which preserves such critical properties as variation diminishing and total positivity. Using this tool we give a characterization of the Birkhoff interpolation problem for spline functions.Communicated by Dietrich Braess. |
