Abstract: | It is shown theoretically that application of an external electromagnetic field with specially selected frequencies in a dielectric
containing impurity atoms allows a scintillation process of emission from impurity atoms to be activated which does not involve
phonons. The process is similar to that in a conventional scintillator except that the field is completely controlled. The
behavior of the emission process can change radically as the amplitude and frequency of the external field are varied, thus
providing a means for wide-range control of such a “field scintillator.”
