Abstract: | New resonant frequency calculations for a tunable gyrotron cavity with a magnetron-like rising-sun cross-section give results that are measurably different from those found by the traditional method, especially as the wavelengths become short enough for the radial slots to support higher-order modes. Moreover, in many instances a large fraction of the microwave field energy resides in these slot modes and as a result any gyrotron interaction is expected to be small. |
