Abstract:
A novel method for the hydrothermal synthesis of 17O-enriched -Al2O3 is presented. Its advantage compared to commonly used methods is that Al2O3 is directly produced from metallic Al and 17O-enriched H2O without formation of intermediate Al-hydroxide phases that require subsequent dehydration. This is a much more efficient use of the 17O label as the Al2O3 has similar 17O enrichment level as the H2O initially used.
