Abstract: | Preferential solvation and intrinsic viscosity measurements are reported for three systems: polystyrene + benzene + methanol, polystyrene + carbon tetrachloride + methanol, and poly(2-vinylpyridine) + ethanol + cyclohexane. Plots of the coefficient of preferential solvation λ′ as a function of variation of the segment density Δρ for a given ternary system, give a single curve for a large range of molecular weight and solvent mixture composition. This correlation between λ′ and Δρ is verified in previously published data. |
