| Abstract: | Lithiated 5-(trimethylsilyl)furfuryl phenyl sulfides or the corresponding diphenylthioacetal can be used efficiently for introduction of butenolide moieties to various types of electrophilic reagents through their addition or substitution reactions followed by oxidation of the silylfuran moieties. |
