Abstract:In this paper, a new coordinate transformation function is presented in order to extend the application of the semi-analytical boundary element method to analyze three dimensional cavity of arbitrary shaped section. A three-dimensional cavity with arbitrary shaped section in an elastic medium can be mapped approximately in a cylindrical cavity with the help of the coordinate transformation function. The coordinate transformation method as compared with the other methods has many advantages. It requires only the coordinates of some boundary nodes of the mapped cavity. The number of node coordinate of the boundary can be increased, in order to improve the coordinate transformation accuracy. The availability of this method for analyses of three-dimensional cavity has been proved by the research results.
