New thermoelastic technique for detection of residual stress distribution in solids

Abstract:Bascd on the non- linear thermoclastic theory, the temperature field and displacement field in a prestressed sample are obtaincd when a one-dimensional heat disturbance is applied to it. By using piezoelectric equations the relationship between the output signal of PZT transducer, which is coupled to the back surface of the sample, and initial stress in sample is found. The photoacoustic and SEAM experimental results about residual stress distributions in Vicker's indentation on Al disks are presented. It is shown that the undfilating distribution of stress in the indentation can be estimated by the thermoclasic technique.
