Abstract:A review of crazes in glassy thermoplastic polymers is presented with particular emphasis on those aspects of craze properties that influence and control fracture behavior. Both crazes as they normally occur, and crazes at the top of cracks are covered. The occurrence of crazes, their microstructure, the stress distribution within them and the nature of craze fibrils are discussed. Theoretical treatments of the effect of crazes on polymer fracture are reviewed.
