Abstract: | Differential thermal analysis-evolved gas analysis (DTA-EGA) has been used, along with x-ray diffraction and microchemical techniques, to study the effect of varying the concentrations of vanadium, carbon, and nitrogen added to steels upon the composition of the second-phase compounds isolated. It was thus possible to identify and quantitatively measure vanadium carbide, nitride, and carbonitride in the presence of one another in the isolated residues. The effect of various heat treatments of the steels upon the composition of the second-phase compounds will also be presented. |
