| Abstract: | The improved 3 step preparation of a key antitumor agent, 7 ethyl 10 hydroxycamptothecin(SN 38), which consists of ethylation, oxidation and photo chemical rearrangement, is described. The proposed reaction mechanism is also discussed. |
