Abstract: | The optical absorption spectrum of dimethylsulfide after a pulse of irradiation has been determined. It consists of the high-energy side of a broad infrared band, observable for less than 70 ns at 20°C and 500 ns at ?70°C. The assignment to a solvated electron is supported particularly by the temperature shift and the attachment reaction to the solute biphenyl, which is diffusion controlled. From the values of the rate constant, the diffusion coefficient, the mobility and the activation energy of diffusion of e?solv are derived. The respective stability of e?solv in different sulfur compounds is discussed. |
