Abstract:In this paper, axisymmetric heat conduction and heat stress problems with three types of boundary conditions are analysed by the Boundary Element Method. The temperature and thermal stress fields for the piston of a diesel engine are calculated using triangular finite elements and constant boundary elements respectively, and the two results are agreeable. However, B. E. M. needs fewer data, less computer time(about one-sixth of that of F. E. M.) and storage volume. The advantages of B. E. M. are sufficiently demonstrated.
