Abstract: | Summary The excitation of atoms into a coherent linear superposition of states may not always be revealed by measurement of the spontaneous-emission intensity at a single detector. Correlation of the intensity at two detectors, however, can under specified circumstances reveal this coherent excitation. To speed up publication, the author of this paper has agreed to not receive the proofs for correction. |
