Abstract:The kinetic energy released in the photodissociation of HNCO is measured by photofragment translational spectroscopy. In this study, CO is ionized by laser ionization immediately following its ejection from HNCO. The time for the CO ions to travel the length of our spectrometer is then measured, and the kinetic energy released by the photodissociation is calculated. Changing the wavelength of the laser that ionizes the CO changes the selected internal energy and the expected change in the kinetic energy release is observed. These data confirm that the threshold for NH (a 1Δ) production is the dissociation energy.
