| Abstract: | Fluorescence polarization measurements of protoporphyrin embedded in the heme-pockets of myoglobin and hemoglobin reveal three different rotational regimes of the porphyrin which are temperature-dependent. At very low temperatures, porphyrin motions in the cavity depend upon the viscosity of the external solvent, at intermediate temperatures upon the oscillation dipolar environment, and above approximately 0°C, upon the microviscosity of the protein medium. |
