Abstract: | Zusammenfassung Zur Schwefelbestimmung in Stahl wird die Probe in Salpetersäure unter Zusatz von Salzsäure im Verhältnis 1 5 gelöst.
Summary For the determination of sulphur in steel the sample is dissolved in a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acid (1 5) and evaporated to fumes with perchloric acid. The sulphate ions formed are separated by adsorption on aluminium oxide (according toBrockmann). After elution with ammonia they are precipitated as barium sulphate and the excess of barium is determined by titration with EGTA. Reproducibility, yield, and interferences are investigated thoroughly. This method can be applied to all kinds of steel. With sulphur contents of 0.2–0.005% a reproducilibity of 0.5–5% (rel. standard deviation) can be achieved.
