A New Method for Determination of Copper Oxide in Copper Sulfide Ores

In our experiments of copper monomineral analysis, it has been discovered that when copper sulfide mineral is leached only with bromine solvent,a part of the copper sulfide mineral react to form precipitated black copper (CuO) resulting in an incomplete leaching of copper sulfide. The bromine solvent and ammonia water-ammonium carbonate solution are experimentally selected as the solution to leach all the copper sulfide mineral and free copper oxide. The bonded copper oxide is present in the residue and determined. At the same time, another sample was used to determine the free copper oxide which is leached by ammonia water-ammonium carbonate solution containing small amount of hydroxylamine sulfate. From the results of the two samples, the amount of copper sulfide mineral can be obtained by subtraction. The method is rapid and simple and the results are reliable.
