Synthesis by Friedel-Crafts reaction of partially saturated analogs of amitriptyline

It is postulated that one aromatic ring and the amine group in the side chain could be sufficient for the specific fixation of the molecule of a tricyclic antidepressant and for warranting its activity. Some partially saturated derivatives of amitriptyline were prepared, in order to check if pharmacologic activity is retained.
