Narrowing of a two-photon resonance due to elastic collisions

Abstract:The lineshape of two-photon absorption in a standing-wave field during elastic collisions is studied. It has been found that the transit broadening of the two-photon resonance on vibrational-rotational molecular transitions is sharply decreased because of an increase in the time of interaction of particles with the electromagnetic field due to elastic collisions. The effect considered allows one to obtain supernarrow optical resonances of two-photon absorption in a low-pressure gas with high intensity.
