Abstract: | Abstract— Reductone, a keto-aldehyde that blocks repair of UV-induced DNA damage also produces DNA breaks. These breaks are observed either in irradiated or unirradiated wild type and uvrA strains of Escherichia coli. DNA breakage has also been observed after in vitro treatment of T4 phage DNA. The results suggest that the breaking ability of reductone is a result of a direct attack on DNA. |
