Abstract:
The transition 4A2 → 2E of Co2+ has been investigated in N(CH3)4]2CoCl4 using optical absorption and magnetic circular dichroism. Three groups of lines with 274 cm?1 progressions were observed. The structure of the spectra indicates a J-T interaction in the 2E state with strong depression of the frequency of the J-T active mode. The ground-state splitting is 7.2 cm?1.
