Unstable fields and the recollapse of an open universe |

Abstract: | The effects of classically unstable fields upon the evolution of an open universe are considered. It is shown that such fields can cause an open universe to cease expanding and recollapse to a final singularity, even if the total mass density is less than the critical density at the present time. |
