Abstract:The deep oxidation of propanol ou Pt/Al_2O_3 takes place in the kinetic region for particle size of 30-40 mesh. A kinetic equation was derived from a Langmuir-Hinshelwood model of adsorption of propanol and oxygen with inhibition by carbon dioxide. When the size of catalvst particles reached 4mm in diameter and 2mm in thickness intraparticle diffusion strongly affected the rate of deep oxidation of propanol. The effectiveness factor of catalyst was determined to be in the range of 1.31-0.75. The partial pressure profile of oxygen in the pores of catalyst was calculated by integrating the differential equation by Euier's method.
