Abstract:Zeolite modified with anion-cation surfactants was prepared by incorporating both cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTMAB) and anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS).The structure of the zeolites before and after modification was analyzed by means of infrared spectrometry and X-ray diffraction.The adsorption behavior of the modified zeolite to methylene blue in wastewater was evaluated.Results show that modification with the surfactants contributes to greatly increase the adsorption capacity of zeolite to methylene blue.At a solution pH of 8,room temperature,absorption time of 100 min,and modified zeolite dosage of 20 g/ L,the methylene blue in wastewater(160 mg/L) was removed at a rate of up to 99.32%.The adsorption kinetics followed the laws of pseudo-second order kinetic model,and the relationship between adsorption capacity(Qe) and equilibrium mass concentration(ce) was in accordance with Langmuir isothermal adsorption equations.
